... is constituted of a Website Coordinator, a Webmaster, a programmer, and dozens of contributors. The duties of the Website Committee are:
        Website Coordinator - general management and operating direction of content. Bill Mair.

The original ABTC Website was first published in August 1997 under the direction of Karen Johnson and Kent Kruger. The ABTC Websites now include this Main Website, the National Specialty Information website, several separately-hosted National Specialty websites, and the websites of all ABTC Area Clubs. All of these websites are subject to the same policies.

Web Basics for Contributors:

Web pages are comprised of text, pictures, etc. that are displayed on a viewer's computer using browser software that reads specifications coded in a computer language called HTML. Instead of writing the HTML code directly (very tedious), we use Microsoft's FrontPage software. FrontPage goes further than merely generating HTML, including managing the page relationships within the web, generating the site map, maintaining the Theme, inserting the banner, logo, the background, navigation buttons, the footers including the copyright notice, and the comments and search links. It further applies a particular bullet style, default font, and several other things.

Unless you plan to make revisions to your webpage very seldom, we would like to put some individual representing each committee in charge of a private "subweb" where they can directly develop new materials and update materials that grow out of date. For this, they will need the FrontPage software. It costs around $150 if not already available. The person working with FrontPage should also have some moderate background in computers and the Web. Actual development work is done directly on a separate, restricted website, and then our Webmaster, Steve Forbes, reviews it and publishes it on the public Website. We have done this for years with the Judges Ed Committee, and it has worked well. The ABTC Website has over 100 pages currently, so we would run into a bottleneck if our small Website Committee had to prepare every change to every page.

Until a committee person is able to take over development, please send a finished copy of what you want to publish in either a plain text file, a Microsoft Word file, or a Microsoft Excel file attached to an e-mail with instructions. Do not send HTML coded files because it will contradict or conflict with the code we generate automatically when we update using our own setup of FrontPage options. Pictures should be sent separately, not embedded in a Word document. Send pictures in jpeg format and keep their dimensions less than 600 pixels high by 800 pixels wide. Browsers ignore other units of measure and density. We have guidelines for pictures at http://www.abtc.org/photos.htm. Don't attempt any fancy formatting or specific fonts because the HTML code will do all that kind of stuff. Updates to the rankings and standings can either be Microsoft Excel files or tables in Word, in the format described below. Materials, like forms, that must retain their exact format, dimensions, pagination, etc. should be converted to Acrobat pdf format.

If you want to incorporate materials from some other website, we can link to it. Do not copy materials from the other source and send them. That would violate copyrights unless you get written permission. Also, get written permission from the photographer to publish all pictures. A copyright permission form is also provided at http://www.abtc.org/photos.htm. We generally do not link to member's personal sites unless they provide special, general interest content, and fully comply with TNT disclosure requirements.

The Webcoordinator holds editorial privilege so as to keep a consistent look to the Website and to enforce ABTC policies. We have written standards that apply to what and how we put things on the Web. A copy is available at the hyperlink noted above. Please do not take offense if we change something. We will show it to you first if it is not a trivial change.

National Specialty Websites:

Each National Specialty Committee is entirely in charge of their web site, but must operate it in accordance with the ABTC Website Policy. The ABTC Website Committee is available to advise and help in several ways, but actual design and development is the job of the Specialty Committee.

Each National Specialty Committee may choose to use the ABTC's National Specialty web host server and URL at http://www.tervspecialty.info/, or their own. The ABTC provides this resource for their convenience, but some Specialty webmasters already operate their own host server and find it more convenient to stay on their own system with simply a link from the ABTC sites.

For lists of awards or achievements :

We ask volunteers who compile and provide lists of awards or achievements to please provide us their contributions using one of the templates available here by download. The template will provide viewers with consistent presentation of the many lists we publish.

Please download and adapt one of these ABTC list templates: Microsoft Excel spreadsheet; Microsoft Word table; HTML; or Microsoft Works. Then attach it to an e-mail addressed to the Website Coordinator.

The ABTC websites are maintained using Microsoft's FrontPage on a separate website used for development purposes only. The page titles listed below sit on that development site and may not yet be published on one of the ABTC's public sites. Access to the development website is limited to ABTC members with official responsibilities. Purple shading signifies a subweb.
