How to add your Belgian to the Photo Gallery?

If you would like to show your Terv in the ABTC Photo Gallery, or on one of the Activities pages, here is what you need to know to put your Belgian 'up in lights'. We prefer fun snapshots and pictures of the dog in action at shows, not standard posed dog show pictures.

We want to see your dog in action, looking goofy, special, pretty, handsome, all those things they do that endear them to us. Also send along a couple of paragraphs about the dog(s), the pictures, why you like these particular shots, turn-on's, turn-off's, favorite TV show, and so on. We want to know the fun stuff about your great Belgian so put those writing skills to work.

Scan Your Photographs or Use a Digital Camera

Digital scanners can be purchased for less than $50.  Digital cameras can be purchased for less than $100.   The following guidelines will produce digital images that we can display on the ABTC website.

  1. Scan your photograph using the image software supplied with your scanner.  Use 96 dpi (the best density of most display screens), your highest color setting, and adjust other settings for true color and the best image. If you took the picture with a digital camera, skip to the next step.
  2. Crop the image to concentrate on what the dog is doing.  Eliminate distracting background.
  3. Resize the image so that the width is approximately 350 pixels, and the height is no more than 550 pixels.  Ignore the size in inches -- viewers' browser will, too.   The result will display two full pictures on the viewer's screen when the display is set at the typical 800 X 600.
  4. Save the image in JPEG (jpg) format, with "high" or "best" quality.   This format will compress the file (350 X 550 = 564 K) to about a tenth of the size for faster internet download.  50 KB is a reasonable size to permit acceptable downloading time.  Do NOT send files larger than 100 KB.  Instead, crop or reduce their size further.  The ABTC Website Coordinator is authorized to make further edits (derivative works) at his discretion.
  5. Attach the .jpg file to an e-mail and send to webcoordinator@abtc.org.

Tell Us About Your Photograph

Tell us a little bit about what is happening in the picture so we can use it in an appropriate setting. We will NOT publish the dog's registered name, nor the owner, handler, pedigree, etc.  If you want to advertise, please send your materials to the TNT (ABTC members only). The ABTC website is strictly for enjoyment of the breed -- not for advertising.   Please let share your enjoyment and show the world what you do with your Tervs.

The Website Coordinator will publish your photo image either in the Photo Gallery, or on one of the Activities pages, depending on the nature of the picture and the needs of the website at the time.  He will notify you when and where it appears.  All placements and text are the sole decision of the Website Coordinator.   Your picture may be removed without notice when the Gallery becomes too crowded or another picture becomes available to illustrate an Activity.

Copyrights

Do NOT send scans of photographs that are protected by copyright by someone other that you.  By current law, a photographer automatically owns the copyright to all pictures he or she takes, without any requirement to register or state a notice of the copyright.  Tell us if you want your copyright notice published with the photograph.   Otherwise your picture will be covered by the blanket ABTC Website copyright.  All images sent for publishing on the ABTC website will be published on the Internet where thousands of persons will be able to download a copy and might ignore copyrights. While the ABTC Website carries international copyright notice by the ABTC, the ABTC accepts no obligation to defend the copyright of another person, and accepts no responsibility for royalty payment to any copyright owner.  All such rights and obligations remain the responsibility of the person submitting the image file.
