How to Read CERF and OFA Numbers

IF a dog has an OFA number this means that the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals has reviewed x-rays of the dogs hips and has found them to be clear of hip dysplasia, and assigned them a rating. OFA numbers are good for the lifetime of the dog.

Example: BT1313E26F
    BT = Belgian Tervuren
    1313 = the number of Tervs evaluated
    F, G, E = the hip rating, Fair, Good, Excellent
    26 = the dog’s age in months when the x-rays were taken
    F or M = the dog’s sex

If a dog has a CERF number this means that the Canine Eye Registration Foundation certified ophthalmologist has found the eyes free of any inherited disorders. CERF exams and numbers must be renewed annually.

Example: BT610/99-47
    BT = Belgian Tervuren
    610= the number of Tervs evaluated and submitted
    99 = the year of the examination
    47 = the age of the dog in months at the time of the exam
