Belgian Tervuren started as one of several Chien de Berger Belge (dog of Belgian Shepherds) in the late 19th Century. The following links provide access to some historic documents and materials. A French-language copy of the Belgian Shepherds section from the 1894 landmark book "Les Races de Chiens" by Adolphe Reul is available in a downloadable pdf file, courtesy of Kathy Champine of the the Belgian Sheepdog Club of America (BSCA). Lee Jiles wrote an article summarizing Belgian Tervuren history that was published in the AKC Gazette in 1992. The Judges' Education Committee has several historic pictures of early Belgians. |
